EUGENE LIU

Born in Shanghai in 1957, Eugene Liu received formal artistic training from an early age and later apprenticed under the esteemed Chinese painters Tang Yan. This classical foundation established the disciplined technique and meticulous craftsmanship that define his work today.

Over more than four decades, he has cultivated a practice rooted in traditional realism, working primarily in oil. His landscapes are recognised for their clarity, fine detail, and the patient, observational approach that reflects years of committed study.

After moving to North America in the mid-1980s, he settled in Vancouver, where the dramatic terrain of British Columbia became his central inspiration. His paintings draw deeply from the Pacific Northwest’s shifting light and expansive natural forms, offering a sense of stillness that invites slow looking.

His works are held in private collections across Japan, Europe, and North America.
